OUR SECTORS

Obsidian Infrastructure Group invests in sustainable infrastructure across  South Africa and Southern Africa, focusing on energy, transport, digital, and social sectors. Our goal is to address regional challenges and unlock growth opportunities through strategic investments that drive long-term development and stability

Sector 1

Energy Infrastructure

  • Southern Africa faces significant energy challenges, with countries like South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, frequently experiencing imbalances between energy supply and demand, leading to reliance on imports and load shedding
  • Fiscal constraints have prompted governments to liberalize the electricity sector, allowing private investments in generation, transmission and energy trading
  • This shift has created opportunities for OIG to focus on projects such as renewable energy for large commercial and industrial customers (“C&I”), transmission line projects (including cross border interconnectors), battery storage for grid stability, C&I aggregator companies and energy trading companies facilitating cross-border electricity trade via platforms like the Southern Africa Power Pool
